The ageless trend is changing the market. Fashion has no age!

This style is called “ageless” – no age. Fashionable streets, covers of the most influential magazines and campaigns of prestigious brands are no longer dominated by teenagers, and mature women often appear. It’s high time because it’s good for both.

Once, Hannah Weiland, the founder of the original British brand Shrimps, was asked who her style icon is. So, she answered without hesitation: Queen Elizabeth II. At that time, she was already working intensively on the autumn 2020 collection, which she showed at the London Fashion Week. The whole thing is inspired by the queen (aesthetically, but also because her majesty announced last year that she was giving up real fur – Shrimps, on the other hand, became famous in the industry for faux fur). The collection received favorable reviews from critics, and 20-year-old influencers on the web loudly admired the style of the 93-year-old monarch. Although maybe it’s more the aftermath of the series “The Crown” on Netflix?

For many seasons, Alessandro Michele has been inviting not only young, promising musicians and artists to the group of Gucci ambassadors but also mature legends. They all dress alike, but they all look unique. This is the basis of the brand’s philosophy – it does not exclude or limit.

At the end of November last year, Chanel ambassador, producer, and 45-year-old model Caroline de Maigret released the book. Next. But this time, she wouldn’t teach anyone how to “be Parisian wherever you are.” The new title is equally (if not more!) attractive – “Older, But Better, But Older.” About what? In general, about how to age gracefully. No need to be afraid of this word. We age after the age of 25 – then the first mimic wrinkles appear. Caroline presents short stories, poems, and advice on how to be fashionable. Or how to stay stylish. And he spices it all up with his own sense of humor.

She’s worth listening to, and she’s one of the modern style icons who always looks perfect (except maybe once during her appearance on Alexa Chung’s YouTube show ). In addition, the Frenchwoman perfectly tames herself and her readers over time. “Initially, I had the idea to write about my neuroses, but I quickly realized that many are related to age. You’re living your life and suddenly, you start feeling some distance from those around you. They put you in a different category, and you start to realize why it happened: I’m getting old,” – she said in an interview with Tatler. However, the most exciting thing is that Caroline opposes adapting the style to the age. “I think it’s the dumbest idea. I changed a few things in my wardrobe only because they didn’t suit me anymore. But I can still put on a mini skirt and do whatever I want,” she emphasized in the same interview. Works. After all, she has been associated with the Chanel fashion house for years. With Virginie Viard, they even go to rock concerts together.

AGE? IT DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING

Age in fashion means nothing. There is no point in imposing a modest form on yourself just because you are over 40. Color, texture – doesn’t look right? “Nonsense!” exclaims Iris Apfel, an interior designer, philanthropist, and fashion icon, who delights with her courage and intuition. But not only her. For years, we have admired Charlotte Rampling (currently the face of Givenchy) and Diane Keaton for the strength expressed through “male” clothing; Maye Musk, model (and mother of Elon Musk !) for bravery; Lauren Hutton – model and actress for elegance, like Carmen Dell’Orefice; Ines de la Fressange– model and writer, for her elusive, French nonchalance… Speaking of her, one cannot fail to mention Betty Catroux, Yves Saint Laurent’s muse, and today Anthony Vaccarello. And these are just a few examples. Most of them sit in the front rows of fashion shows. It also happens that they go out on the catwalks. After all, Demna Gvasalia with Balenciaga, and earlier with Vetements, has been active in the “ageless” fashion cult for years.

Amazingly, especially for street style photographers, the “ageless” fashion trend is presented by British women: model Laura Bailey and fashion editor Sarah Harris. Photos of this last of the most influential fashion weeks circulate all the media – because of her style and gray, waist-length hair. Dye? “NO. I had gray hair when I was 16. It’s hereditary,” he says. Silver locks beautifully emphasize her beauty but also make her look more serious. But it’s so interesting that Cara Delevingne or Ariana Grande were told to dye themselves gray …

FIND YOUR STYLE, REGARDLESS OF AGE

The style can be discovered with a two, three, four, five, and even a six, seven, or eight in front. There is no border. And if it is, it’s worth raising the barrier. And invest in good quality things that do not lose their shape and will look good for years. Well-dressed, very mature women stroll around Madrid. We will also see them in Milan and Paris. London is a characteristic elegance, subdued, unless it is Vivienne Westwood – faithful to her punk aesthetics for years and finding herself in it perfectly. She’s the queen of punk, after all.

Perhaps it’s a matter of cultural norms in which we grew up, but there really is a celebration of maturity, meeting with friends, discussing in a cafe over tea and cake. And no one looks suspicious – on the contrary. Scandinavia is dominated by minimalism, which has been revived for some time with fantastic prints and colors. Teenagers, mothers, and grandmothers go to Ganni, Malene Birger or Baum und Pferdgarten. And each one looks great – styled differently, wearing a dress or shirt with a different self-awareness.
